Dragon 10 Updates (Should I Update?)

For those currently using Dragon version 10.0, most of you are aware that an update, 10.1 (aka SP1), was realeased some time ago. As Speakeasy Solutions are still receiving phone calls from some of our clients regarding this update, I thought it prudent to address this topic here.

The saying “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” can also apply to Dragon. While 10.1 provides some bug fixes (sorry, but not all the bugs are fixed), it may be an unnecessary update if you are content with 10.0. However, one of the most pronounced “fixes” is improved recognition accuracy — although if you are receiving excellent accuracy, you may wish to remain on 10.0. Perhaps most notable for some are that numbers and postal code handling is improved in 10.1. Also alleviated are errant spaces while spelling.

You will definitely need 10.1 if you are running a Vista 64 bit OS.

If you are using Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 10.0, you may click here to receive the update for 10.1.

If you are a Speakeasy Solutions client using Dragon Medical 10.0, please contact us (604-264-9109) to arrange for 10.1. Please also call us if you wish to discuss whether or not you specifically should update to 10.1.

And finally, a word on the Software Updates from Nuance. Unfortunately we have no control over these popups.

Nuance Dragon Update Pop Up

These popups sometimes time out or error. However, these popups seldom contain actual software updates. What they do contain are advertisements for other products offered by Nuance. There is, unfortunately, no way to filter out the advertisements from the notification and are simply best ignored (close the dialog box popup).

If you have concerns as to whether or not you are running the latest version of Dragon, do not hesitate to contact us.
