Five Top Uses for Dragon in Law Offices

LegalTip Legal practitioners were one of the first to embrace speech recognition many years ago.  They became disenchanted with Dragon when they realized it could not deliver the accuracy that they desired.  However, this was in the past.  And like any software application, fine wine, and most technologies, Dragon has steadily improved with age.  In fact, as a software fanatic such as myself, I’ve never known any software application to make the steady leaps and bounds that Dragon does from version to version.

To every Dragon user out there I have said for the last couple of years:  “If you are not achieving at least 99% accuracy with Dragon, we need to talk.” There is much I may be able to assist with, and have enjoyed doing so for over ten years.  But I digress…

Take a Holiday with Dragon

Dragon Tip If the Summer heat here in Vancouver and British Columbia is preventing you from enjoying the outdoors as much as you’d like, consider spending a little of your holiday time with Dragon. There is much more to Dragon than transcribing your voice into text.

Great improvements can be made in productivity by exploring the powerful capabilities of voice commands. Accomplish more even faster.

Imagine telling Dragon in one command to “FYI Alice” while an email is selected. Dragon will rapidly initiate an email forward, enter in Alice’s email address, type “FYI” into the body of the forward and then send the forward.

If you wish assistance with learning how to create these powerful commands, or desire such commands created for you, contact Alexandria Carstens at 604-264-9109 ext 102. She will be pleased to set up an appropriate appointment with you.

Inadvertent Triggering of a Dragon Voice Command

Dragon TipThe following example scenarios have likely happened to most Dragon users:

(1) You are hurriedly dictating your email, enjoying the speed at which you can now create and reply to email, when suddenly your thoughts slow and you utter a single syllabled word that sounds like “send”. In MS Outlook, this will click the Send icon and, not so surprisingly, send your email message — before you are finished said message.

(2) In MS Word you may be dictating a letter, slow down and utter a single syllabled word that Dragon mishears as “print”, and you have now printed your unfinished document.

These are situations that do happen, despite our best efforts to remember to think before we speak and speak in continuous phrases. Thankfully, there is a simple resolution for Dragon Professional, Legal and Medical users.
