Dragon

Feature Comparison

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 Professional and Legal, and Dragon Medical 10 have extensive customization and deployment capabilities that enable busy professionals to get more done in less time without changing their workflow.

The following features are available for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional, Medical, and Legal users only:

Speakeasy Solutions Voice Commands, Custom British Columbia Word List & Canadian Vocabulary When you receive a Speech-Recognition Package (Dragon Professional/Medical/Legal, microphone, installation and initial training) from Speakeasy Solutions Inc., you will be able to take advantage of a series of voice commands that makes using Dragon NaturallySpeaking easier and more efficient.

Moreover, Speakeasy Solutions Inc. provides a true Canadian vocabulary where words are spelled "colour" and not "color", as well as a series of vocabulary items so that when you say "sub C", "(c)" will be typed out and when you say "sub four", "(iv)" will be typed out.

Speakeasy Solutions Inc. also provides a British Columbia focused word list incorporating medical and legal phrases commonly used so that you do not have to add these yourself individually.

Multiple Custom Vocabularies Although all editions of Dragon use the same core engine, the ability to create multiple custom vocabularies in Professional, Medical and Legal can increase accuracy by at least 5%.

Network Ready Dragon 10 and 11 makes your user profile available anywhere on the network, via mapped drive, UNC path or http, and automatically synchronizes updates and adaptations centrally.

Citrix Support Dragon 10 and 11 supports Citrix deployments, giving users access from thin client workstations.

Voice Notations Dragon 10 and 11 allows users to include special instructions for third-party editors within Microsoft Word.

Network Management Tools for network management of Dragon users: Manage user profiles, vocabularies and installations of Dragon NaturallySpeaking over a network with a new GUI.

Smart Text & Graphics Shortcuts Lets you instantly define the variable values in any boilerplate text, or have Dragon NaturallySpeaking prompt you with variable value choices. Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 now allows you to create text shortcuts with voice field variables, allowing you to be even more efficient with your dictation.

Smart Commands Allows you to change the meaning of a command depending on the location of the cursor.

Macro Recorder Record and recall your actions by using the Macro Recorder to record a series of mouse movements, clicks, and/or keystrokes and recall the actions using a single voice command.

Step-By-Step Commands Automate routine tasks using step by step scripting to create voice commands one step at a time, even if you are not a programmer.

Speech Enable Applications Speech enable forms and applications using the Advanced Scripting tool to make forms and applications that can be navigated by voice (or have Speakeasy Solutions Inc. create such scripts for you).

Save Speech with Document Save your dictation in Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, or DragonPad for transcription or correction at a later time.

Lotus Notes Natural Commands allow you to edit, navigate, and send e-mail more easily in Lotus Notes.

Microsoft Office Natural Commands Natural Language Commands for Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft InfoPath (Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred has Natural Language Commands for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).

Dragon 10 and 11 allows you to create email and schedule appointments from any application.

Import/Export Commands Commands can be imported and exported between users and versions -- this becomes extremely important when upgrading or creating a new user profile.

Improved Third Party Correction Reduce dependencies on support staff or improve transcription turnaround time with enhanced third-party correction features. Specific enhancements in DNS 10 include:

  • Digital Voice Recordings - Both the audio and the transcribed text of a digital voice recording can be sent to a transcriptionist for review. An Auto-Transcribe Folder Agent can manage text and synchronized audio flow for third-party review, which streamlines the process of correcting another person’s dictation.
  • Correction Only Mode - Dragon 10 lets those who correct the dictations of others create a “no dictation available” profile, which means that they don't have to go through any kind of audio setup, no matter what dictation source the speaker used. The "correctionist" can open the synchronized dictation files to make corrections by hand, which contributes to the optimization of the speaker's profile over time.

The following notations are relevant with respect to vocabularies:

Vocabulary Differences & Benefits Dragon Medical is an absolute must for medical practitioners. With over 50 speciality vocabularies, you will not obtain the levels of accuracy you desire without choosing medical. The Dragon Medical of today is definitely quite a bit different and amazingly accurate when compared to its state 9 years ago. Moreover, Nuance has disabled non-medical versions of Dragon from functioning in EMRs.

While Dragon Legal is geared towards American, it's a personal choice whether Canadian practitioners find it useful or not. Please contact Speakeasy Solutions to learn more about whether Dragon Professional or Legal is more suitable for you.

Speakeasy Solutions recommends using Professional, Medical or Legal in the following scenarios:

  • If there is a need to work in the following programs: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint and Lotus Notes,
  • If there is a need to use other software not mentioned above (QuickBooks, Groupwise, Amicus Attorney, EMRs, Maximizer, ACT! and so forth),
  • In instances of restricted upper limb use, (tendinitis, carpal tunnel, repetitive strain injuries and other upper limb limitations) or prevention thereof,
  • Needing to dictate in more than one writing style genre (business, programming, industry specific and so forth) or vocabulary needs to be shared amongst other users,
  • The need to export a vocabulary into another "user profile" (a timesaver if needing to create a new profile based on a new audio input device),
  • A desire/need to automate processes, use templates by voice and create documents more quickly than you presently are,
  • The need to deploy and manage Dragon NaturallySpeaking across a multiple user workstation scenario,
  • You will be using a digital array or wireless microphone device,
  • A need to dictate documents for editing and correcting later with the aid of your originally dictated speech,
  • There is a desire to use intuitive commands in programs where Speakeasy Solutions Inc. has created voice commands (such as general and improved PC use and with ACT!),
  • A desire/need to automate repetitive tasks to save time and alleviate the effects of RSI, and/or
  • Drafting of documents that will then be turned over to another individual for editing and final touches -- the draft of the document can be saved with the user's actual voice dictation which will assist in very accurate, if not perfect, document creation.
