Training

Speakeasy Solutions Inc. highly recommends one-on-one training. Group training sessions are also possible when individuals in the group all learn at approximately the same pace, and have the same objectives. A maximum of four people can be accommodated within the group training session, although experience has shown smaller groups to be more effective. All training sessions are performed in two-hour segments. Times noted below may vary.

Speakeasy Solutions Inc. offers several different training programs:

Initial Initial training in the use of speech recognition teaches you effective use of speech recognition software.

Topics covered are:
  • Optimizing Dragon NaturallySpeaking's options
  • Document navigation
  • Editing text
  • Correcting text
  • Dictating numerics and special characters
  • Dictating uncommon text
  • Formatting text
  • Controlling the computer
  • Refining your vocabulary
  • Improving speech recognition accuracy
  • Creating custom voice commands
  • Speech recognition maintenance
Training time: 3 or 4 sessions. If in a group, this will be followed with 1 or 2 one-on-one sessions to customize the instruction and tailor the learning to each user.

Digital Voice Recorder Training in the use of a digital voice recorder with speech recognition will teach you: how to use the digital voice recorder; effective use of speech recognition with a digital voice recorder; and customized methodology and use for specific purposes.

Topics that can be covered are as follows:
  • Creating the digital voice recorder profile source
  • How to achieve the highest recognition accuracy with the digital voice recorder
  • Transcribing dictation
  • Transferring dictation to a correctionist for correction and/or editing
  • Correcting transcribed dictation
  • Editing transcribed dictation
  • Fine tuning the digital voice recorder aspect of your profile
Training time: 1 or 2 sessions, depending on whether or not a correctionist will be involved, and the extent of the solution required.

Specific Program This training is often incorporated in either initial or intermediate training. Some users require more detailed and customized instruction with respect to using Dragon NaturallySpeaking in the programs that they use every day such as Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook etc.

Possible topics are as follows:
  • Working with Microsoft Outlook's idiosyncrasies
  • Customizing Microsoft Outlook usage for improved performance
  • Tweaking Microsoft Outlook for optimal use with speech recognition
  • Customizing your voice interface with Microsoft Word
  • Workarounds for some limitations when using Microsoft Word
  • Creating commands to quickly create new documents based on existing templates
  • Effectively navigating the World Wide Web with Internet Explorer
  • Increasing efficiency by using macros with Internet Explorer for commonly accessed web sites
  • Exploring Microsoft Excel's array of voice commands
  • On the spot customization of programs not supported by Dragon NaturallySpeaking
Training time: 1 to 3 sessions, depending on what needs to be learned and whether or not this was possibly covered during Initial Training.

Intermediate If you currently use speech recognition and have had no formal training, Intermediate Training will provide you with information to maximize the use of speech recognition in your day-to-day programs. For those who have taken initial training from Speakeasy Solutions Inc., Intermediate Training also incorporates a selection of advanced features within Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

Training topics can include:
  • Fine-tuning your vocabulary for maximum accuracy
  • Employing various non-vocabulary related techniques towards maximum accuracy
  • Creating voice commands for maximum productivity
  • Incorporating speech recognition into your routine
  • Using the right commands for the right tasks
  • Effective editing
  • Speed editing and correcting
  • Maximizing the use of speech recognition in your programs
Training time: 1 or 2 sessions. If in a group, then this is followed with 1 one-on-one session to customize the instruction and tailor the learning to each user.

User and Correctionist Both you and your correctionist can benefit from some of the more advanced features available in speech recognition software. Training will involve both you and your correctionist.

Topics covered can include:
  • Speech recognition transcription from digital voice recording
  • Editing and correcting documents saved with user's actual speech
  • Maximizing use of roaming user profile feature
  • Correctionist improving user's speech recognition profile
  • Developing process and workflow for expedient document creation
Training time: 1 to 3 sessions, depending on the extent to which the correctionist will be working with the user's profile.

Creating Voice Commands Training in the creation of voice commands (also known as macros) teaches you: how to create voice commands to streamline processes; which types of commands to use in specific circumstances; and how to speech-enable third party programs.

Some covered topics can include:
  • Maximizing your productivity with Microsoft Office
  • Speeding up your general computer use
  • Creating boilerplate or repetitive text
  • Creating commands from sequences of keyboard shortcuts
  • Speech-enabling the impossible with mouse macros
  • Creating commands that contain variables
  • Creating advanced commands with Visual Basic
Training time: 1 to 2 sessions, depending on the level of command creation that needs to be taught, as well as available samples and scenarios. This can be taught in groups provided the objectives and goals are the same.

Follow-up and Efficiency Follow-up and Efficiency training is often quite useful several weeks after any of the above types of training have taken place, as you will likely have developed some questions. Your use of speech recognition in your day-to-day routine will be studied, and suggestions made for improved use of speech recognition. Any challenges you may be experiencing will be addressed. Quick convenience commands that can be used by you as a template for more commands might also be created during these training sessions.

Training time: 1 session and might be possible in groups.

Upgrade Upgrade training aids you when you upgrade from a previous version of your speech recognition software. You may qualify for and be provided with an updated SeS Canadian Vocabulary, SeS Voice Commands as well as a new version SeS Training Workbook. A new version user profile will be created and your custom word list and commands imported into your new user profile. You are taught the upgrade's new features and given an opportunity to review and enhance your existing techniques and workflow to maximize your productivity. On the spot command creation tailored to your needs will also improve your experience.

Training time: 1 session.
